少女艾诺拉·佩妮（Virginia Newcomb 饰）偶然在深夜进入一家破败的歌剧院，乖张吊诡的演员为她表演了六个异乎寻常的故事：《蟾蜍之母》一对美国夫妇来到法国某偏远山镇旅行，在这里结识了一个诡异的老婆婆；《我爱你》德国柏林，走到尽头的婚姻，歇斯底里的偏执男人让他的妻子再也无法忍受着无处不在的狂爱；《梦遗》饱受邪淫梦境困扰的男人，在梦与现实的夹缝中迷失；《事故》真实的死亡对于一个小女孩来说也许过于费解与残酷，然而这就是它真实的原因；《记忆收集》她杀了求死的女人们，她看见并拥有了她们的记忆；《甜食》一度沉浸在甜食和热恋中的情侣，不知不觉走到了情感尽头。
好像一切都很糟糕
Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
